History of RamachandrapuramIn the 17th century Raja Kakarlapudy Dynasty ruled this region. Then the land was known as Penkullapadu. Before that these rulers ruled from Kottipalli Kota.All the forts and temples got washed away by a heavy flood in the middle of the 17th century. The deities of the clan Rukmini, Satyabhama, Samet Venu Gopal Swami were shifted to another new temple in the 22nd ward. There are may be many villages known as Ramachndrapuram, so to differentiate they started calling this as Kota Ramachandrapuram as it is a fort town. It is near the town of greatest pilgrimage centre.
Many legends and famous personalities were born in this place like the celebrity drama actor Veerbhadraacharyulu. His performance as the Raja Harishchandra made both him and his native place famous. The legendary actress Jamuna also lived in this town. The wrestler Shri Kodi Rama Bala Murthy, the cine director Vamsi was born here. With course of time it has developed into a cultural centre who gives awards to the upcoming state level drama performances.
